The North Umpqua Foundation
The North Umpqua Foundation was founded in 1983 when anglers and other concerned parties banded together to oppose a hydroelectric project that could have had an irreversible impact on the river. The project was defeated, but other threats loomed for the well-being of the river and its anadromous fish—from the poaching of native steelhead in Steamboat Creek to the deterioration of sensitive spawning grounds. Since that first victory, the Foundation has remained intact to protect and advocate for a river that can’t speak for itself.
Native Fish Society
The Native Fish Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 whose purpose is to protect and restore native, wild fish and their habitats. Our goal is the conservation, preservation and restoration of wild fish in the Pacific Northwest. We work to establish effective fish management policies based on the latest scientific research, and we encourage the public to get involved in this process.
Umpqua Watersheds
Umpqua Watersheds, Inc., is dedicated to the protection and restoration of the ecosystems of the Umpqua watershed and beyond.
NW Region National Marine Fisheries Service
The Northwest Region administers National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries Service programs off the coasts of Oregon and Washington, and in the vast inland watershed habitats of Pacific salmon in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Its principal responsibility is implementing the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and recovering 18 populations of listed salmonids covering more than 47 percent of the land base of three states.
The Freshwater Trust
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, The Freshwater Trust is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that actively works to preserve and restore our freshwater ecosystems. It is a merger of Oregon Trout and the Oregon Water Trust.
Recreation
Umpqua National Forest
High Cascades glaciation, whitewater rapids and explosive volcanic events have shaped the spectacular scenery and abundant natural resources of the Umpqua National Forest. The headwaters of the North Umpqua river and Row River begin in the Forest. The waterways and diverse landscapes of the Forest create desirable habitat for many species of fish and wildlife in addition to providing outstanding recreational opportunities to our local communities and visitors.
